Hi from everyone involved in the production of the Race the Waves weekend in Bridlington for April 2023. For those not familiar with this event, we have created an alternative motoring attraction at the East Yorkshire Coast which is influenced by the historical use of the Yorkshire Coasts’ firm and tidal sand for motor speed trials & racing. A little-known fact; in 1905, Filey, (which is only minutes up the coast from Bridlington) was the first beach in the UK to host land speed record attempts. BACKFIRE’s ‘Race The Waves’ combines influences from the early years of Coastal motor racing with the Post War American Hot-Rodders and drag racing culture.
Our journey from a one-day event in 2018 is very impressive, considering we are a group of amateur & aging motoring enthusiasts with no previous experience in event organising. We are especially grateful for the support from the Bridlington community and the continued and considerable support provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and The Yorkshire Coast Bid, to make the 4 days an inviting prospect for our Yorkshire Coast visitor.
